Club History

“Woodlands Santos” is a football club that was originally founded in 2009 by

Andy Connelly and Nick Delaney as Groves Celtic and Groves FC, playing out of the Groves Sports and Social club in Whitby.

Now in it’s forth season, the club has moved to a new home at Netherpool and are regularly based out of the Woodlands pub/hotel, in the Whitby area of Ellesmere Port.

The club is now in the safe hands of a management team consisting of Colin Wilson, Dave Boyle, Mark Hughes and Simon Jefferson.

Regularly supported by Biscuits, Shep, Digger, Jimmy Mac, and many other regulars, the club has progressed up through the CDFL leagues in the last 4 years.

In addition “Woodlands Santos” have reached the 2012-2013 finals for both the DEE 106.3 League cup and the Roodee web designs Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy, after seeing off sides such as FC Village, Ellesmere Port III, Waggon & Horses, Whitby Athletic and Shaftesbury Youth, in two marvelous cup runs.

After finishing up as Runners Up to Lache FC in the TGMT final, Woodland secured their first silverware with a 2-0 win over Kelma in the League Cup Final.

In the 2013-2014 season Woodlands were beaten finalists in the WDA Amateur Cup.
